Benefits of Commercial Solar

There are many benefits of going solar. Schools that go solar protect themselves from rising electricity rates, gain energy independence, experience long-term savings, significantly reduce their carbon footprint and positively impact their communities by educating the next generation about renewable energy.

Taking Schools Solar

Baker Electric Home Energy has a long history of helping schools across all of Southern California including Colleges, Universities, Middle Schools, High Schools, and Elementary Schools switch to solar. Our staff has both the knowledge and expertise necessary to complete installation projects on existing facilities as well as design-build support to determine the specific needs for all sizes and types of solar installations. Switching to solar serves as a green legacy through which schools can educate the next generation about what it means to care for the environment.

Palomar College

In 2010, Palomar College constructed a new Health Sciences Building at their San Marcos, CA campus. Baker Electric Home Energy contributed to this new construction project with the installation of a 46-kilowatt solar system. The solar system and measures taken in the 23,000 SF building's construction combined to make the project LEED Gold equivalent. The annual production of this system is estimated at 69,037-kilowatt hours.

Hill Creek Elementary School

In 2011, Baker installed a 267 kW solar system on ten shade structures at Hill Creek Elementary in Santee, CA. The complete PV system consists of 1,204 solar panels. With an estimated annual production of 408,000 kWh, the solar installation will provide a significant return on investment for the Santee School District.

Alpine Union School District

The solar systems installed at five sites across the district were sized to produce the greatest financial benefit to the district by shifting to a solar-friendly rate structure and by significantly lowering their electricity costs. All five sites remained open throughout the installation.

Hemet Unified School District

In 2012, Baker successfully coordinated the architectural and electrical design and managed the installation of over 18,700 solar modules safely without impacting schools while in session. Hemet Unified School District benefits from 4.4 megawatts of solar electricity across seventeen sites in the district. The installations serve as shade structures over parking spaces and playground for elementary, middle and high schools. The systems save the school district approximately $300,000 annually in utility costs.

Solana Ranch Elementary School

In 2014, Baker was the prime electrical contractor to construct 68,311 SF of new construction for Solana Ranch Elementary School in San Diego, CA. A 180 kW rooftop and carport PV solar system was installed on the school. South sloping roofs were designed to hold the PV arrays, which each classroom being cooled and heated by its own rooftop system. The installation provides the district with increased energy efficiency and significant financial savings.
